How to use some of our famous sauces!
Uses for Harissa

What is Harissa: A North African pepper sauce, this is a combination of various chilies and spices, and has a distinct earthy smokiness that adds an amazing depth to dishes.

Some of our favorite ways to enjoy Harissa:

Mix harissa and mayo to amp up your sandwich or burger.​

Mix harissa and yogurt or hummus for a quick sauce or dip.

Add harissa to your Shakshuka for an easy weeknight dinner.

Roast carrots, brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, eggplant, or a mix of root vegetables with Harissa!

Swirl some harissa into soup to finish it off.

Marinate or glaze chicken or tempeh with harissa to surprise your guests (or family) with a delicious meal!
Uses for Sambal

What is Sambal: An Indonesian chili pepper sauce, packed with ginger, garlic, and lemongrass, and has a fresh bright spicy flavor.

Some of our favorite ways to enjoy Sambal:​​

Mix Sambal into hummus for a quick sauce or dip.

Mix Sambal into mayo to spread onto sandwiches, burgers, or hot dogs.

Coat Sambal onto tempeh to really bring out the Indonesian flavors.

Stir Sambal into a big bowl of rice noodles.

Sambal and fish make an excellent pairing!
Uses for Tinga

What is Tinga: Originating in Mexico, this sauces base is tomatoes, peppers, and onions, with a deep earth richness.

Some of our favorite ways to enjoy Tinga:​​

Perhaps the most popular is Chicken Tinga - simply cook chicken in this sauce for a delicious and tender taco filling

Brush tinga onto anything that you're putting on the grill - meats, tofu, vegetables!

Add some tinga into refried beans.

Cook tinga into a pot of rice and beans.

Garlic Scape Pesto

10 large garlic scapes

1/3 cup olive oil
-
1/3 cup shelled pistachios
-
1/3 cup Parmesan cheese
-
1 pound pasta
-
salt and pepper to taste
Combine garlic scapes, olive oil, pistachios, and Parmesan in a food processor until they form a thick, pesto-esque paste. This is your sauce.
Cook your pasta, and reserve a cup of the salted pasta water. Toss the pasta with the reserved liquid and the garlic scape pesto; season with salt and pepper to taste.
Rhubarb Yogurt Cake

Cream together 1 and 1/2 cups raw sugar and 1/2 cup butter

Add 1 egg and 1/2 tsp. salt until mixed

Stir in 1 cup plain yogurt (or buttermilk)

Whisk 2 and 1/4 cups flour with 1/2 tsp. baking powder and 1 tsp. baking soda, and then stir into the mixture.

Add 1 tsp. vanilla and 1 and 1/2 cups cut rhubarb and mix in

Scrape into a well-greased 9-by-13 inch baking pan

Combine 1/4 cup granulated sugar with 1 tsp. cinnamon and 1 tsp. nutmeg, and sprinkle on top.

Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 35-40 minutes, until cake tests done.
Andrea's Squash Cakes

3 eggs, beaten

4 c grated summer squash

1 c grated onion
-
1 large jalapeno, chopped
-
1/3 c Parmesan cheese
-
1/2 c flour
-
2 tbs olive oil
-
1/2 tsp ground cayenne pepper, or to taste
Combine all ingredients except eggs, then add beaten egg.
Heat 2 tbs canola oil in frying pan and spoon 1 to 2 tbs squash mixture, sautee both sides until golden brown.
Creamy Garlic Scape Salad Dressing

Here's a recipe for a tasty scape dressing, perfect for all the salad veg in the box this week. Just throw all the ingredients in a blender and serve.
• 2 Tbsp garlic scapes (fresh, or frozen), coarsely chopped
• 1/4 Cup extra virgin olive oil
• 3 Tbsp plain unsweetened yogurt, or sour cream
• 1 Tbsp mayonnaise
• 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
• 1 tsp dijon mustard
• 1/4 tsp cider vinegar
• 1/2 tsp fresh ground black pepper
• 1/4 tsp sea salt
• 1 tsp honey (optional)
